The Creative Occult: Spirit Drawing & the Underworld
The Creative Occult: Spirit Drawing & the Underworld
$44.00

The mysteries of the Underworld sprout arms and legs beneath the full Harvest Moon.

The restless dead regain their voices, while the rooted ones grow crowns of orange and crimson. The shadows of past selves descend on our dreamscapes and yearnings, haunting the wilds of our creative work.

Old stories illustrate the Underworld as a labyrinth or crossroads, while others suggest a dance floor unrestricted by time and space. Some people describe a library with sentient books or a strange garden on the verge of harvest, brimming with seeds. Modern mystics suggest that the changing landscape of the mythical Underworld mirrors a human’s inner sanctum: the shifting realm of imagination, creativity, and unconscious material.

The goddess Persephone makes her home in the Underworld of Greco-Roman mythology. As Queen of the Below, Persephone guides lost souls and initiates people into the mysteries of the moon and the reaping season. She cares for the dead, the soon-to-be-born, and spirits known as daimons, all of whom are sacred travelers and messengers.

The mystical psychologist and writer James Hillman believed every human was assigned a daimon before taking their first breath. He described daimons as “soul companions,” spiritual forces that, when listened to, remind us who we truly are. Because this spirit shapes our innate gifts, patterns, and life experiences, Hillman called the daimon the messenger of destiny.

On September 25th, join Pointy Hat Press co-founders Caitlyn Barone and Kristin Lisenby for a mythopoetic and intuitive art experiment. Together, participants will gather beneath the full Harvest Moon to practice spirit drawing using art as a doorway into the creative unconscious.

This series blends artistic process, occult philosophy, and generative conversation and prompts to inspire your creative life. Each class invites artists of all levels to divine with their unconscious material through collective and spontaneous art-making methods, and because self-expression is for everyone, no experience is needed- just a blank page, a curious heart, and a desire to venture beyond the physical veil.

Little Witch Tales: Telling the Bees - Hardcover
Little Witch Tales: Telling the Bees - Hardcover
$25.00

An illustrated fairy tale about a little witch, a curious invitation, and a sticky, springtime tradition.

On the next new moon, join Little Witch and her coven beneath the Elder.

It’s time to tell the bees.

Alongside Persephone and the Fairies, join Little Witch for high tea with the hive! As you and the bees sip honeyed potions, Madam Spider spins riddles and Little Witch describes a curious dream – one about a moonstruck hare, moving at your own pace, and the origin of fairy tales.

What does it mean to ‘tell the bees?’

Many moons ago, magick was part of everyday life. Bees brewed honey and pollinated flowers, but they also worked as household psychopomps, fuzzy messengers that carried our stories between worlds.

Back then, bees were not mere insects but divine couriers, and upon reaching important milestones, families toasted their good fortune with the hive. The buzzing might go on for days (the bees loved any excuse for a party), but once the hoopla died down, a team of pollinators would set out for lands unseen and deliver meaningful news to spirits long gone.

Today, the ritual of telling the bees appears in animistic and magickal communities, and according to Little Witch, a happy hive is a fruitful spell, sweetening the boundaries of heart and home.

Together, you’ll gather seasonal flowers, bake soul cakes, and host a magical meal in honor of Great-Grandma Rose.

What is a ‘Dumb Supper?’

In parts of England, Ireland, and Scotland, families hosted Dumb Suppers to honor friendly spirits. These silent suppers were popular during harvest season and a simple way to honor ancestral ghosts. Since speaking, whispering, or making noise of any kind was forbidden while seated at the table, the living relied on tarot cards, psychic abilities, and a bit of magick to communicate in silence.
