What is a ‘Dumb Supper?’

To honor friendly spirits, in parts of England, Ireland, and Scotland, families hosted Dumb Suppers. These silent suppers were popular during harvest season, and a simple way to honor ancestral ghosts. Since speaking, whispering, or making noise of any kind was forbidden while seated at the table, the living relied on tarot cards, psychic abilities, and a bit of magick to communicate in silence.
