《Live Gathering》The Symbolic Heart Workshop

$13.00

On Friday, February 13th, 2026, join the Literary Coven for some virtual crafting and conversation about the symbolic heart! With nostalgia as our muse, we'll craft paper talismans and discuss the heart as a creative collaborator and an oracle, bridging the Above and the Below.

About this workshop:

Once upon a time, the Goddess reigned from a throne that was plumed and sun-shaped. People called her the Swallower of Hearts.

Ancient Egyptians believed the heart and the soul were one and the same, and when someone died, they traveled to the halls of the goddess Maat. As a spirit of judgement, Maat weighed the person's soul-heart or 'ab' against her Feather of Truth. If their heart weighed less than Maat's feather, the goddess granted them passage to the afterlife. However, if their heart weighed more, it was fed to Ammit, the Devourer of the Dead.

Etymologically, 'ab' translates to 'dancing,' and gestures to the mystical pulse of life. Caged in the body, the beating heart composed the first song.

Today, the moon and the tides claim the heart as their kingdom, but at one time, the heart's essence was seen as solar, active and eternal. For medieval alchemists, the heart promised transformation. It was not solely a catalyst but a vessel for metamorphoses. Later, the mystical Carl Jung also compared the heart to an alchemical container, a cauldron for creative tension in which a person's conscious and unconscious currents mingle.

According to the poets, when worn on the sleeve, the heart voices our yearnings. To consume a heart is to risk choking on that same desire, only misunderstood. Crossing one's heart is a sign of loyalty, and possessing a big heart is a sign of virtue.

Upon purchase, you’ll receive a PDF with a link to join us on Zoom. If you cannot join live, a recording will be provided.
